תבנית לפוסט יחיד בקטגוריה ספציפית
ברגע שמתחילים להשתמש בוורדפרס כמערכת ניהול תוכן ולא מערכת בלוג עולה הצורך לעצב פוסטים מקטגוריות שונות בצורה שונה.
למשל באתר של קוד-ארט, הפורטפוליו הוא קטגוריה של פוסטים. כל הפוסטים המשוייכים לקטגוריה זו מעוצבים בצורה מסויימת, לעומת הפוסטים של הבלוג (המורכב משאר הקטגוריות) שמעוצבים בצורה שונה לחלוטין.
ישנן שתי דרכים לעשות זאת:
להכניס תנאי לתוך single.php שבודק האם הפוסט שייך לקטגוריה האמורה, אם כן -להפנות לקובץ א' אחרת לקובץ ב'

להגדיר למערכת לטעון באופן אוטומטי את הקובץ נכון על ידי שימוש בפילטר single_template

עם הגעתה של גרסת 3.0 חשוב וכדאי להכיר את השיטה הזו שכן היא משמשת גם לעבודה עם פוסטים מותאמים אישית
לגבי פוסטים מותאמים אישית השיטה הזו קצת מיותרת, מאחר שאפשר פשוט לייצר קובץ בשם single-{post-type}.php
היררכיית התבנית של WP3.0 יודעת לטעון במקרה זה עבור סוג הפוסט בשם {post-type} את תבנית הסינגל הספציפית לסוג המותאם אישית.
צודק לחלוטין, לנעט העובדה ש-3.0 עדיין לא יצאה ושלא תמיד אנחנו רוצים\שמחים לשדרג גרסה כ"כ מהר למערכת קיימת.
אגב, באתר של הוצאת גרף בחרתי כן לעבוד עם גירסת 3.0 (למרות שהיתה RC1) ולהשתמש בדיוק מבנגנון הזה כולל תצוגה של custom taxonomies
אפשרות נוספת היא להשתמש ב
(שיש ממילא בהרבה תבניות)
ואז אפשר לעצב ב-css את ה-class שמקבלים הפוסטים בקטגוריה, למשלcategory-work בדוגמה שלך.

אגב, לגבי הפיצ'ר החדש והיעיל הזה ב- WP3. גילית שעדיין יש בעיה עם סלאגים לקטגוריות של פוסטים מותאמים אישית, יש שם משהו קצת שלא מתפקד לגמרי עד הסוף, או שעוד לא הבנתי לגמרי איך ליישם את הסלאגים שיעבוד כמו שצריך בעמודי ארכיון כאלה.
האם זו הסיבה שבאתר של הוצאת גרף השתמשת בפרמלינקים ברירת המחדל ולא בכאלה מותאמים אישית?
התוספת של סוגי פוסטים מותאמים אישית היא מצויינת. עם זאת, עדיין כל המידע יושב באותה טבלה אחת של wp-posts ולא בטבלאות מופרדות, כמו שלמשל עושה Pods הנפלאה.
אני גם לא בטוח אם אפשר בקלות לייצר במידת הצורך פילטורים של סינון תוכן ע"י הגולש לסוג התוכן, כמו שמאפשר עם Pods.
אבל אין ספק שזה שדרוג משמעותי ביכולות של WP.

והאפשרות של post_class מצוינת כשההבדלים הם עיצוביים, היא הרבה פחות מוצלחת כשצריך קוד ממש שונה לפוסטים
(שוב אם משתכלים על הדוגמה של אתר גרף עמוד סופר או עמוד ספר שונים משמעותית מפוסט רגיל (או זה מזה אגב)
